I had my first-generation GHDs for about 16 years, and they served me well. But I used them until they were dead. When they stopped working, I went straight to GHD and bought another pair. But these were not as good as the first ones I made. Every time I used the plates, they caught in my hair and pulled out one or two hairs. They also didn’t get as hot as my first pair. As soon as I left the house after straightening my hair, it would frizz up again and look like a big mess. They went back. I tried my friend’s Cloud 9, but the outsides were too hot for me.
Sali Hughes, a beauty writer for the Guardian, told me about these Babyliss straighteners. They were cheap, so I bought them while I looked for a long-term solution. But these are pretty cool! My hair has never been so smooth and shiny. I like them better than my first GHDs, which I bought in 2005 for about £100.
At first, I thought the wide plates might be hard to use and make it hard to get close to the roots, but they don’t look or feel that wide and work the same as a standard width straightener. I would definitely suggest these!
